16 September 2012Pyrography Machine

The County has purchased a pyrography machine that can be used for craft activities by units.

The machine must be plugged in and has a pencil shaped holder with a metal tip that gets hot which can be used to burn writing and images on wood.

Blanks can be purchased from craft suppliers and are not supplied when borrowing from County.

Already the machine has been tried out with Tain units and at County camp and Badaguish.

We have prepared a risk assessment for the machine, but do not recommend it for Rainbows. The leaders supervising the users are responsible for it's safe use at all times and county takes no responsibilty for accidents.

To borrow it e-mail Moira Mckenna on drmmck@gmail.com. It can be collected from her house in Evanton or from Dingwall Health Centre Monday to Friday 8am-6pm by prior arrangement only.

An availabilty calendar is shown on the page entitled County loans.

For more information on possible uses check out http://www.peterchild.co.uk/pyroinfo/pyinfo.htm to see a picture of the machine and google pyrography to get an idea of what you can do. Blanks are avaiable froma  variety of suppliers including Baker Ross.
